It's Snowing!
Well, it's winter time here in Idaho. We've had a TON of snow. It seemed like it started snowing and just didn't stop! I think one day we had something like 12 inches or some crazy number like that. Then it got really cold which meant ICE. That's not fun, especially for Marty who has to deliver mail in that stuff. One day he came home and told me he had slipped 3 times. Poor guy!
But the snow is beautiful. It was wonderful to have a White Christmas. Not ever having snow growing up, it's just fun to see. And Jessica really loves it this year. She loves to "make footprints" in it. And she built a snowman at school too. One day she told me, "Mommy, I love the snow."
Christmas was so much fun. Jessica was sooooo excited about Santa Claus. It just brought back so many wonderful childhood memories of the excitement of Christmas. I totally get now when people say it's for the children because there's nothing like seeing it through their eyes. Christmas Eve we went to church and had a wonderful service where we lit candles and sang Christmas songs. Then we came home and let Jessica open two presents. One was a new pair of pj's and the other was a game. This is a tradition that my parents always did with me. It helps with the excitement and anticipation of Christmas morning. So she put on her new jammies and we played the game (which she was really good at!).
Christmas morning, she slept in until 7am!! That was good for us...lol. So we went downstairs and sitting under the tree was her lion. It's a robotic lion that blinks and roars and moves. She had seen it on t.v. and asked and asked for it. So that was the big present that Santa brought. She saw it under the tree and screams, "My Lion!!!" and ran up to it. It was so cute. She has taken him everywhere since and she named him "Roar". He is pretty cute.
Christmas dinner we went to our neighbors house, Marti & Phil. They are an older couple and just love Jessica and Jake. Marti is an awesome cook and she put on quite the spread. It was sooooo good. It was a wonderful day where we created wonderful Christmas memories.
Jake is 4 months old now. It's hard to believe. He has quite the personality. He smiles at just about anything and everything. He is a happy little guy! He also giggles (especially if you tickle him) and he's starting to "talk" which is so darn cute. He will just hold a conversation for a good 10 minutes with you...lol. He's starting to try to roll over and grabbing for toys. He's also REALLY interested in the food that we eat. I'll have him on my lap while I'm eating my dinner and all of a sudden, I'll see the plate move. He will grab it and pull it to him...LOL. So at his 4 month appointment I told the doctor and he said to go ahead and start giving him some rice cereal since he seems so interested.
He's a big boy too. At his 4 month appt on Monday he weighed 14lbs 13oz. The kid is almost 15lbs!!!! He's also long. He was in the 75th percentile on length. So he's definitely going to be a bigger kid!
Life is crazy here with the little ones but we feel very blessed!

Ok, I KNOW I haven't updated this in like FOREVER!!! But it's better late than never, right????
It was a long summer with being pregnant. The pregnancy went well but I was uncomfortable through most of it! I found out that I was anemic (no wonder I was soooo tired), thought I had gestational diabetes (which thankfully turned out not to be true) and just had tons of aches and pains!
But it was all worth it when on September 8th at about 5 o'clock in the morning I went into labor. We got to the hospital and I was almost 8 cm dilated! It was CRAZY. I was having full blown contractions. I'm not one for pain (I give it to all the women who give birth naturally but that's not for me!) so I asked for an epidural. They gave me something like an epidural but it only lasted for 3 hours. They figured that since I was so close, it would be plenty of time. However, the meds stopped my contractions! So they had to give me more medication to get them going again. It took three hours so just as the medication was wearing off, I was having hard labor again. Thankfully he was almost out and it just took a little pushing and he was here!!
Jacob Martin was born at 11:33 am and he is the MOST beautiful baby ever. Honestly, we are completely and totally in love with him. Our little boy had arrived!!!
Jessica is doing great! She loves him completely. She will tell everyone and anyone, "That's my baby Jake!" Sometimes, though, she loves him too much and "tickles" him. It's a daily mantra at our house to say, "Gentle touches" or "Not so hard". She doesn't mean to be rough, she just loves him so much. She's been a big help too.
Jessica started preschool in September (the day after Jake was born). We found a lady who does preschool in her house and thought it was a great place for Jess. She is doing so GOOD at preschool and she loves it so much! She is learning so much too. She has learned all the letters of her name and is working on writing them. She is counting really well, knows all her colors and shapes. She also stood up in front of the class the other day and did a "show and tell" with her stuffed giraffe. The teacher said she is a little "teacher's helper" and shows leadership qualities. She also said she is very smart and picks up on things quickly. We're so proud of her!!
Halloween was so much fun this year! Jessica wanted to be a tiger and she was a cute one!! We went to a friend's house to do trick or treating. This is the first year that Jessica has really gone T&T and she had a blast!! There were five kids in our group and they were all so adorable as they ran up to the door and said, "Trick or Treat" and opened their bags. It didn't take them long to figure out that if they did that, they got CANDY! They were so adorable running from house to house. And they came home with quite a loot.
Jake was baptized on November 9th at our church. He wore a cute, little white tuxedo suit. He looked gorgeous! He fussed while Pastor was talking but quieted down with the baptism. He loves water...lol. Our good friends Maureen and Colby are his godparents. We are blessed to have them in our lives and know that they will hold Jake up in prayer always.
It's starting to get cold here but no snow so far. That usually comes sometime after Thanksgiving. We're starting to get ready for the holidays. Jessica is really into Christmas this year. She is excited to see Santa Clause although it remains to be seen if she'll sit on his lap this year. Hopefully with her little brother with her, she will.

First Blog
Hi all! This is our first blog. We thought we'd join the blogging age to keep everyone updated on the ongoing happenings of the Idaho Hubers!
The most exciting news of recent is of course the news that we're having a little BOY!!!! He's due on September 21st which means we a little over three months to prepare for his arrival. Jessica kind of knows about the baby....we talk about him a lot but I'm not sure how much she actually "gets". It will be interesting to see how it goes when he arrives. She does love other babies though and wants to "help" with them so I think she's going to be a great big sister!
We recently moved Jessica into a "big girl bed" and she's doing AWESOME!! She stays in the bed and doesn't try to get out (at least not yet). She picked out Dora The Explorer sheets and she calls them her "big girl sheets". She loves her bed and she looks so cute in it. We took the crib apart to get it through the door (how come they never fit through the door?). Anyway, we need to put it back together and then we're going to turn the playroom into the nursery for the baby. We're not in a rush because it will be some time before the baby sleeps in there but it's always good to be prepared.
The week before Memorial Day, Marty had vacation and so we went to Bear Lake on the Idaho/Utah border. It's a beautiful lake and we had a lot of fun. The only problem was that because it was the week before the holiday, no services were open and so we pretty much had to make our own entertainment. So we just played in the lake, built sandcastles, played kickball at camp and took some walks. We had a really good time and Jessica loved "camping". Ok, so we rented a cabin so it wasn't tent camping but it was close!
We've also been doing some hiking (when it hasn't been raining). We're very lucky that we have mountains and lots of trails right in our backyard. It's about a 5-10 minute drive from our house. Jessica has a blast just picking up rocks or looking for bugs. It's amazing how fascinating everything is when you're two! Her favorite this last time out was picking dandilions. She loved picking them and blowing them.
It's been raining a LOT here the past couple of weeks. We don't mind the rain except that we've had a looooong winter and we're just dying for some sunshine!!! The other day, we were in the car and it was raining and Jessica said, "Where did the sun go?" I told her it was hiding today. She paused and then said, "It's raining. I'm angry!!" Hahaha! I told her mommy was angry too! This kid cracks me up with the things she says.
Well, this is good for a first blog. I'll try to keep everyone updated as best as I can!
